Crunching leaves while taking an autumn walk in a beautiful gorge. Joining a nature outing at Hayes Arboretum or Cope Environmental Center. Watching baseball games at McBride Stadium, one of the last fields of its kind. There’s beauty here in architecture and artworks at an array of museums across the county.

You can bike and run and walk and gawk along Indiana’s best trail. The 70-mile-long Cardinal Greenway, appropriately, starts next to a popular bike shop and fitness center in central Richmond. It offers easy access to downtown and the burgeoning Depot District, which complements historical beauty with downhome music, murals and special meals.

The nearby county courthouse and Richmond High School stand as architectural gems. The big and bright Reid Health campus stands as a beacon of health, hope and beauty on the northern horizon. Yes, Wayne County is visually stunning. But, a lot of our assets are intrinsic, too.

Liveability here is a great value. Among the reasons: Our assets are beautifully accessible and affordable. Interstate 70 and U.S. 40 and 27 crisscross Richmond and easily carry travelers east and west and north and south.

Many of the activities here are low-cost or even free.

Richmond’s cost of living is the lowest in the nation for any town that’s 65,000 or lower in population, according to statistics from the Council for Community and Economic Research.

It costs less than half the national average to buy a home here. The costs for food and utilities also are low in comparison to the rest of the nation. It’s cheaper than anywhere else to visit a beauty shop or buy a shirt.

There’s a beautiful spirit here in our people. Judges called Richmond’s presentation the most touching of all towns when it was named an All-America City (for the second time).


There’s beauty in all corners of our county. There are large farms and fields of grain, horse ranches with white fences and the tallest point in Indiana.

There are colorful theatrical productions, yearly fireworks displays and lots of highways that can get you anywhere you want to roam …. and then back home again.
